Hailing from a village called Metz in Tzaneen Limpopo, the Rapola Family Choir is a tight-knit group of 8 members—5 children and their 2 parents—united in their mission to minister through gospel songs.
This ensamble blends traditional South African Gospel with heart-lifting messages of hope and faith. Their latest single, The Lord is My Shepherd, released on 30/08/2024, reflects their trust in God’s guidance. Written by Dr. NA Rapola, the single is a melodic traditional gospel sing-along sang in both English and Sepedi, reinforcing that day after day, The Lord remains our shepard. The album features 70% original songs written by the choir and was produced by Joel Maphosa, known for his collaborations with Takie Ndou and Benjamin Dube. The Rapola Family Choir has released several albums since their debut in 1997 with Peace in Heaven. Subsequent releases include Masango (2007), Gopola (2004), Glory to God (2009), and Varikona (2013). In 2017, they recorded a live performance at the Nkowankowa Community Hall.
The choir’s story is one of resilience. They faced numerous challenges, including financial obstacles, but their faith in God saw them through. Their latest album is a tribute to these struggles and triumphs, emphasizing God’s unwavering support.
Although each member has their own individual career, their love for spreading the gospel through song is the one thing they all share in common and it is their greatest unifying factor.
The choir aims to tour nationally and across Africa, aspiring to be recognized as one of South Africa’s biggest choirs. They hope to collaborate with renowned artists like Rebecca Malope and Kirk Franklin, aiming to touch lives worldwide with their gospel music.
